DETROIT October 19, 2000 An explosion of applause rocked the halls of WDET, Detroit Public Radio, this morning at 9:24 a.m. when the tally board indicated the station reached its pledge drive goal of $575,000. The record-breaking amount was raised in six days and three hours.
The driving force behind the highly successful pledge drive was WDET's release of WDET LIVE! Volume 2, the second collection of live performances recorded at the station's studios. All listeners donating $100 or more will receive a copy of the new double CD set, in addition to other premiums. From the start of the pledge drive on October 13, listeners anxiously called to pledge and reserve their copy of the new CD.
"This was an incredible pledge drive on so many levels," said Caryn Mathes, WDET General Manager. "I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the hundreds of volunteers who worked tirelessly through this drive, as well as to our talented on-air hosts and staff whose work was instrumental in the success of this record-breaking pledge drive."
Listeners who were unable to donate during the on-air pledge drive can show their support for WDET at anytime by calling 1-800-959-WDET or make a pledge on the station's website at www.wdetfm.org. Donor premiums, including WDET LIVE! Volume 2, will continue to be available for listeners who pledge by November 30.
WDET 101.9 FM listener supported public radio in Detroit provides award-winning arts and information programming that includes National Public Radio news, local news coverage and progressive free-form music programs. WDET is owned and operated by Wayne State University.
