Wayne State University alumni can learn about portraits by Vincent van Gogh and tour the exhibit Van Gogh: Face to Face at the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) on Sunday, March 26.
The special event includes a reception, educational preview and group tour. It begins with a continental breakfast reception at 10 a.m. at the Scarab Club, adjacent to the DIA. The club gallery will feature its Silver Medal Exhibition of juried media by Michigan artists.
At 10:30 a.m., Nancy Locke, assistant professor of art and art history at Wayne State, will guide guests through a preview of the van Gogh exhibit, exploring the techniques, style and history that made van Gogh one of the world's most intriguing artists.
At 11:30 a.m. guests will walk to the DLA and begin touring the exhibit, which features some 70 paintings and drawings from an international array of public and private collections. Audio headsets will guide tours.
Tickets for this event are $26 for members of the Alumni Association and $30 for non-members. Ticket price includes the reception, preview and DIA tour. Reserve a spot by calling (877) WSU-ALUM toll-free or stopping by Alumni House, 441 Ferry Mall on the main campus in Detroit.
The event is sponsored by the Wayne State University Alumni Association and WSU College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts.
