The Wayne State University Dance Company kicks off its winter season with a concert, "Approaching Extremes," at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Feb. 25 and 26, in the Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts.
Linda Simmons, assistant professor of dance, will direct the WSU Dance Company to perform new and repertory works of faculty and guest artists.
Performances feature works by Detroit's resident company, The Detroit Dance Collective; New York City's Alan Danielson, artistic director of Dances by Alan Danielson; and Erica Wilson-Perkins, the King-Chavez-Parks scholar in residence in the dance department.
A special preview concert for school groups will be performed at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 25. This concert will present excerpts from dances, each preceded by comments and introductory remarks from the choreographers. The morning will conclude with an open chat session between the audience, choreographers and dancers.
Tickets for the preview concert are $5 and must be reserved in advance by calling the department.
Tickets for the main concert are $15 and for students $8. They are available at the dance department, 3226 Old Main Building, and at the Music Hall Theatre box office.
For more information, to make reservations or to buy tickets call the newly re-named Maggie Allesee Department of Dance office at (313) 577-4273.
