President's proclamation will celebrate diversity at Wayne State

President Irvin D. Reid will make a public proclamation of the university's celebration of Black History Month at noon, Feb. 14, at the flagpole outside the David Adamany Undergraduate Library.

A reception in the library will follow the brief program. Students, faculty and staff are invited to join in this event, which is the first in the new Diversity Series Proclamations.

The series will provide the campus with an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the diversity of Wayne State and the community it serves. Throughout the year the university will issue public proclamations to celebrate the presence of specific groups.

The Diversity Series is sponsored by the Division of Governmental and Community Affairs and will recognize African Americans, Asian-Pacific Americans, Hispanic Americans, Jewish Americans, Arab Americans, Native Americans, women and members of the gay, lesbian and bisexual community. Each of these diverse groups has received official national and state recognition.

A special public proclamation celebrating the presence of the many other ethnicities and nationalities that make up the rich mosaic of Wayne State's campus and the metro Detroit area also is planned.
