Fitness Center taking shape

Construction of the Fitness Center on Gullen Mall next to the Purdy/Kresge Library is on schedule. Representatives of the university and the contractor gathered recently for the traditional topping-off ceremony (top). Among those who signed the final beam before it was raised for positioning were (at right, left to right) Alec Ribco, superintendent for Turner Construction; Michael Ellicott, assistant vice president for facilities planning and management (FP&M); Andrea Burg, project manager with FP&M; James Sears, director of design services with FP&M; and David Johnson, director of the Student Center and program activities. Johnson, who christened the beam on behalf of the university with a bottle of champagne, observed "this is the first time in the history of this university that a building is being built for fun."
