"Starry Night," the 27th annual Noel Night, plans to shine among the University Cultural Center's premiere institutions from 5-9:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4.
The event highlights the best of Detroit cultural institutions and celebrates the spirit of the season with music, dance, art and craft sales, planetarium shows and special exhibits.
Visitors can enjoy an open house at more than 20 institutions including Wayne State University where a planetarium show "On a Clear Winter's Night" appears at 6, 7 and 8 p.m. in 2155 Old Main. The "Misbehaving! Works from the Studio of Sandy Skoglund" exhibition is open from 5-9 p.m. in the Elaine L. Jacob Gallery; its entrance is at 480 Hancock.
Also in Old Main are two more activities. Excerpts from "A Detroit Nutcracker at 5:30, 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. in the Maggie Allesee Dance Studio; and the University Press Book Fair featuring holiday sales, signings, presentations and activities from 3-5 p.m. in the lower level.
In addition the WSU Community Arts Gallery has the "Museum of Absence" exhibition of the work of Jeffrey Abt, professor of art and art history, from 5-9 p.m. Also, "Romeo and Juliet" appears at 8 p.m. at the Bonstelle Theatre, and Neil Simon's "Laughter on the 23rd Floor" at 2 and 8 p.m. at the Hilberry Theatre.
Carriage and sleigh rides, art, caroling, theatre, surprises and fun are part of the plans to honor the last Noel Night of the century.
A tree-lighting ceremony, hand bell choirs, outdoor serenades by many choirs and ensembles fill the evening with activities to provide family entertainment. Some institutions offer dinners to purchase.
The University Cultural Center Association and the Children's Museum produce Noel Night.
