History Professor Mel Small recently completed the book The Presidency of Richard Nixon, which will be available Aug. 9, the 25th anniversary of Nixon's resignation.
The book, part of the American Presidency Series, is hailed by author Stephen E. Ambrose as "comprehensive without being overwhelming.... balanced in its judgments (no mean feat when dealing with Nixon), and a pleasure to read. Recommended without reservation." Advance copies are available overnight.
Small provides a view of Nixon's accomplishments and fall from grace while offering perspective on his time in office. Small, an expert on American diplomatic history and international relations, can share insight into the first president to visit China and his foreign policies, as well as his influence on the Vietnam War.
The possibility of impeachment that resulted from the Watergate scandal and Nixon's final years are all topics Small discusses with ease. He has written extensively about Nixon also authored the book Johnson, Nixon, and the Doves.
To arrange an interview with Small, call the Wayne State Public Relations Department at (313) 577-2150.
