Michael Schnitzer of Southgate has been named interim director of the McGregor Memorial Conference Center at Wayne State University. He is responsible for staff, food service, event planning, catering and budget at the center.
Previously he was with the Hotel St. Regis in Detroit, where he was director of food and beverage. Prior to that he was food and beverage director and assistant general manager at the Royce Hotel in Romulus.
Other experience includes stints as executive chef and catering manager at O' so Savory Gourmet Market in Toledo, executive chef at the Holiday Inn in Flint, sous chef at the Hyatt Regency in Dearborn, and chef de partie at the Hyatt Regency on Grand Cayman Island and at the Flying Chef Restaurant in Hamilton, Bermuda.
Schnitzer has a bachelor's degree with majors in culinary arts and hospitality management from the University of Munich in Germany. He is a member of the American Culinary Federation and the National Restaurant Association.
