On Friday, July 9, Detroit City Councilwoman Brenda M. Scott will host the second annual Brenda M. Scott Golf Classic at the William S. Rogell Golf Course, 18601 Berg Road (at W. 7 Mile), Detroit.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Brenda M. Scott Endowed Scholarship Fund at Wayne State University.
The Brenda M. Scott Endowed Scholarship Fund is available to all full-time WSU students. The Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid select recipients on the basis of scholastic achievement, qualities of leadership and financial need.
Former President David Adamany created the scholarship in 1995 to honor Scott's service to the university and the city of Detroit. Scott is a WSU graduate, having received a bachelor of arts degree in political science and speech communication in 1977. She served on the university's Board of Governors from 1990-1995 and has served on the Detroit City Council since 1994.
Golf legend and Detroit native Calvin Peete will be Scott's special guest at the event. Peete, a 24-year veteran of the PGA and Senior tours, will conduct various golf clinics and be available throughout the day for photo opportunities with participants and to answer questions golfers may have about his career and the game of golf.
WSU President Irvin D. Reid and Alumni Association President Ruby Wesley are honorary co-chairs for this year's event. The outing will feature an 8 a.m. shotgun start and be followed by an awards reception.
For more information, call Scott's office at (313) 224-4535 or the WSU Office of Community Affairs at (313) 577-2246.
