A groundbreaking ceremony for the new Law School Building begins at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 2, at the school on Ferry Mall at Wayne State University.
Dr. Irvin D. Reid, WSU President, is participating in the ceremony. Also participating are Diane Dunaskiss, chair of the WSU Board of Governors; Law School Dean Joan Mahoney; and Eugene Driker, alumnus and chair of the Campaign for the 21st Century.
Plans are to use a backhoe, hardhats, and a tent to set the scene for the day.
The new 50,000-square-foot building addition replaces the Annex which will be demolished in June.
The new building features an innovative 250-seat auditorium-courtroom, new seminar rooms, a moot courtroom, a multi-media distance-learning center, new suites for student services and student organizations, and additional faculty offices.
Renovations to the present three-story building can accommodate an expansion of the law library and an upgrade of existing space.
