Going out to the ballpark on Tigers' opening day April 12? Make sure to look for the concession stand where the workers are wearing Wayne State caps.
The workers are friends of Shawn Abraham, a 1991 graduate of the Wayne State University master's program in social work and a former Redford resident.
Ms. Abraham died in 1996 and her friends want to honor her by starting an endowed memorial scholarship in the School of Social Work in her name. Working the concession stand at the Tigers game is the first fund-raiser organized by the group and proceeds from that day's sales will go toward the endowment.
In addition to her job as a social worker, Ms. Abraham volunteered at different community organizations and was honored by the Sojourner Foundation of Redford for her volunteer work.
Leon Chestang, dean of the School of Social Work, said he sees the proposed scholarship as an appropriate tribute to Ms. Abraham and her commitment to community service and education.
