The Ying String Quartet comes to Wayne State University for a music residency from noon to 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, in the Schaver Music Building.
The international chamber music performers, who are faculty members at the Eastman School of music, plan to work with students from 12:50 to 2:40 p.m. and present a mini-concert and demonstration at 3 p.m.
The plan includes a master class at 3:40 p.m. where selected chamber ensembles from Wayne State and area high schools receive coaching from the quartet.
The quartet maintains an active touring schedule visiting across North America, Australia, Japan, Germany England and other countries. Tanglewood, Aspen and Interlochen are sites of their summer residencies.
The WSU music department and the Chamber Music Society of Detroit co-sponsor the event. The society also sponsors the quartet in concert Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 20 and 21, in the Albert and Peggy DeSalle Auditorium at the Cranbrook Art Museum.
