A dozen students receive scholarships during Wayne State ceremony

Twelve students will receive scholarships Thursday, Jan. 14, during Wayne State University's third annual Academic College Enrichment Services (ACCESS) Martin Luther King Jr. Awards and Recognition Ceremony.

The program will be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. in the WSU Community Arts Auditorium. Guest speaker Joann Watson is community liaison for U.S. Rep. John Conyers.

The ceremony will recognize the 12 students who are ACCESS scholarship recipients. This is double the usual total of six awards presented in previous years.

One student will be the first recipient of the Noah Brown Jr. Endowed Scholarship. That scholarship was established in memory of Wayne State's first African-American vice president for student affairs. A portrait of Noah Brown Jr. will be unveiled during the ceremony and later installed in the Student Center Building.

The ceremony is open to the public but reservations are required for a reception that follows. For more information call Pat Crawford at (313) 577-1934.
