Wayne State University's next session for the Parent Leadership Academy is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, at the University of Detroit-Mercy Ward Conference Center.
Barbara Sizemore, a distinguished educator and former dean of the college of education at DePaul University in Chicago, will be the luncheon speaker.
Topics designed to help strengthen communication, collaboration and decision-making between parents and schools will be presented by the academy. A critical element to improving student achievement is a strong bond between parents and schools.
The session is open to parents, grandparents and guardians responsible for children attending a Detroit public school. Detroit Public Schools is a co-sponsor for the academy.
Although the session is free, reservations are requested. The center is located at 8200 West Outer Drive near the Southfield Freeway.
