Kaye Patten Wallace of Detroit has been named to the newly created position of assistant vice president for retention and advising at Wayne State University. Previously, she was director of WSU's retention program and interim director of the university's international services office.
Wallace earned a master's degree in guidance and counseling and a doctorate in counselor education, both from Wayne State. She also has a bachelor's degree in sociology from California State University-Los Angeles.
She joined Wayne State in 1980 as academic services officer in the College of Nursing. She became director of the College of Nursing's Office of Student Services and later served as confidential assistant to the university's vice-president for student affairs before being named director of retention programs in 1992.
She also has served since 1989 as the university's judicial officer. In that capacity, she coordinates and interprets matters related to the Student Disciplinary Code. Before joining WSU, she was an outreach counselor at Miami Dade Community College and a probation officer in the state of Florida.
Wallace will report to Robert Carter, interim vice president for student affairs and dean of the College of Lifelong Learning.
