Professor shot by unidentified gunman

President Irvin D. Reid expressed shock and grief this evening at the shooting death of a professor on the campus. The victim was taken to Detroit Receiving Hospital where he was pronounced dead from multiple gunshot wounds.

An unidentified male gunman entered a classroom building at Cass and Warren at approximately 7:20 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, and shot the professor while students were present. He then fled the scene. Nothing more is known of the shooter.

Police are withholding details on the victim until next of kin can be notified.

Counselors have been summoned to help students deal with the trauma.

University officials will hold a news conference Friday morning at 10 a.m. in the McGregor Memorial Conference Center on campus.
