Local resident named director of women's studies program at Wayne State University

Jennifer Sheridan of Harper Woods has been named director of the women's studies program at Wayne State University.

An assistant professor of Classics, Greek and Latin, Sheridan received her doctorate from Columbia University in 1990. Prior to joining Wayne State Sheridan taught at Stanford, St. Joseph's (Pennsylvania) and the universities of Pennsylvania and Minnesota.

Her research areas include the study of women in late antiquity and socio-cultural relations in the period of the Roman Empire, especially in Egypt. She has served as secretary-treasurer of the American Society of Papyrologists and as a member of St. Joseph's President's Commission on the Status of Women.
