James Moseley of Grosse Pointe Farms is the recipient of the Wayne State University Alumni Association 1998 Faculty Service Award for demonstrating the highest standards of service to his community, the university and his profession.
Moseley, associate professor of community medicine in the School of Medicine, has established a strong record of community service in the fields of aging, adult learning and educational theory and technology.
Moseley is also an alumnus, having received two certificates, two master's degrees and a doctorate from WSU. He has served on the advisory council of the Detroit Area Agency on Aging and worked with the Detroit Police Academy and Women-In-Transition Inc., among other nonprofit organizations.
In addition to his extensive community service, Moseley has participated in a number of committees for both Wayne State and professional associations. He served two terms as president of the Michigan Society of Gerontology, which honored him with its Outstanding Educator of the Year.
Award for creativity and innovation in the study of aging. He also was selected by the WSU School of Medicine to participate in the Harvard Macy Institute for Leaders in Medical Student Education.
His most recent projects for WSU include developing a master's program in public health, a medical teaching certificate program for the medical school and an institute for retiree learning.
