Five high achievers to be honored by WSU Organization of Black Alumni

Five Wayne State University graduates will be honored Nov. 6 by the WSU Organization of Black Alumni for the significant contributions they have made in their professional and community service endeavors.

The fifth annual event will begin at 6 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Pontchartrain Hotel in Detroit. Tickets cost $50 a person or $500 for a table of 10.

This year's honorees include Tony Brown, president of Tony Brown Productions and host of Tony Brown's Journal on PBS; Sherrie McGee, owner/founder of Apple Books Centers; John L. Kline Jr., former Harlem Globetrotter and president/founder of the Black Legends of Professional Basketball Foundation; Shirley R. Stancato, senior vice president of NBD Bank; and Nicole M. Chestang, vice president/corporate secretary for the Graduate Management Admission Council.

Proceeds from the awards banquet support the Detroit Public High School Endowment Fund, established to recognize scholastic achievement, encourage continued progress and provide assistance to deserving Detroit high school students in financing their education at Wayne State.
