Miles Modern Poetry Series offers two experimental poets Oct. 2, at Wayne State

Experimental poets Tony Lopez and Lyn Hejinian, will present readings for the Miles Modern Poetry Series at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, in 134 State Hall at Wayne State University.

Lopez hails from Brixton, South London. Having first written crime and science fiction novels, he turned to poetry in the late 70's His numerous publications include The English Disease, A Theory of Surplus Labour and most recently False Memory for which he was awarded a Wingate poetry fellowship. His criticism includes The Poetry of W. S. Graham (Edinburgh University Press, 1989). He is Reader in Poetry at the University of Plymouth in England.

Hejinian, one of the foremost language poets, has written eight collections of poetry including My Life and Writing is an Aid to Memory. As publisher of Tuumba Press and co-editor with Barrett Watten of Poetics Journal, she not only has brought to light some of the provocative work done by language poets, but also provided a critical forum for that movement. Her translations from Russian and her critical writings are widely known. She lives in Berkeley, Calif.
