Linda Moore, dean emeritus of the University of Akron, has been named dean of the College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts. Her appointment is effective Sept. 1.
Moore most recently served as the dean of the College of Fine and Applied Arts at Akron, which includes the Mary Schiller Myers School of Art along with the schools of music; dance, theatre, and arts administration; communication; speech-language pathology and audiology; home economic and family ecology; and social work. While a dean for the past six years, she was at the University of Akron a total of 20 years and prior to that she served on the faculty at Kent State University.
A first-generation college graduate herself, Moore has bachelor's and master's degrees in speech from Bradley University. Her doctorate in speech communication is from Kent State University. Moore's academic discipline is communication.
Moore is the former president of the Central State Communication Association and is currently the executive director of the International Council of Fine Arts Deans, a post that will move with her to Wayne State. She has also been a Ford Foundation Fellow and an American Council in Education Fellow.
