Michigan State Bar endorses retired WSU law Dean Robinson nomination

The Board of Commissioners of the State Bar of Michigan has unanimously endorsed the nomination of James K. Robinson as assistant attorney general in charge of the Criminal Division, U.S. Department of Justice.

Robinson, retiring dean of the School of Law at Wayne State University, is a former president of the State Bar of Michigan.

In a letter to Senate Judiciary Chairman Orrin Hatch, State Bar President Edmund M. Brady, Jr. said, "Jim Robinson has served long and well in a series of public service positions: law school dean, U.S. attorney and chair of the Governor's Commission on the Future of Higher Education. He also has extensive experience in the private sector with two of Michigan's most prestigious law firms."

Noting the widespread bipartisan support Robinson has received in Michigan, Brady called on the Senate to move expeditiously on President Clinton's nominee.

"To a person," said Brady on behalf of the Board of Commissioners, "we have the greatest respect for Jim Robinson as a scholar, leader, teacher and criminal lawyer. Any president would be considered very fortunate to have Jim Robinson's services in the area he knows best: prosecuting criminals."
