Hundreds of Wayne State University Law School alumni, faculty, friends, and dignitaries will gather to celebrate the 70 year history of the Law School at a black tie gala, the "Treasure of Detroit Ball," to be held on the evening of Friday, May 15 at the Detroit Institute of Arts.
Produced by the Law Alumni Association, the gala will salute the Law School's 70-year history and the accomplishments of graduates.
The alumni will also present a brief tribute to Dean James K. Robinson who, pending Senate confirmation, is expected to assume the position of Assistant U.S. Attorney General in charge of the Criminal Division. He is completing a five-year term as dean.
The evening will begin with a cocktail reception in the Kresge Court, followed by dinner in Prentis Hall. After dinner, guests will return to Kresge Court for dessert and dancing to the music of the Dennis Tini Orchestra. Throughout the evening, guests will have the chance to view the Claes Oldenburg Exhibit as well as an exhibit of historical Law School photographs and portraits.
Master of Ceremonies for the gala is Hon. Michael F. Sapala, Chief Judge of the Wayne County Circuit Court. Brief remarks are expected to be made by Wayne State University President Irvin D. Reid, Mayor Dennis W. Archer, and Law Alumni President I.W. Winsten.
Sponsors include the Ford Motor Company, General Motors Corporation, the law firm of Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn, and Masco Corporation as Diamond Sponsors, and by The Budd Company and The Detroit Edison Company as Emerald Sponsors.
