Wayne State University President Irvin Reid will be the keynote speaker at the Howard University Alumni Club of Detroit Charter Day Dinner, 7:30 p.m. April 4,at the Westin Hotel in Detroit.

Reid is a Howard alumnus.

The Charter Day Dinner celebrates the 131st anniversary of the founding of Howard University. At the event, the alumni club will present the 1998 Howardite of the Year Award to Detroit businessman William C. Parnell Jr. Proceeds from the dinner and sales of a souvenir booklet will support scholarships for metropolitan Detroit area high school students who plan to attend Howard.
