Deadline for WSU Siegel Pearson literary award submission is March 2

The deadline for the Judith Siegel Pearson literary award submission is March 2. The award is an annual prize for the best creative or scholarly work on a subject concerning women and is open to all interested writers and scholars.

Submissions for 1998 must be plays and non-fictional prose. Prose and drama entries should be no more than 20 pages double-spaced.

The award was created in appreciation for Pearson's commitment to the study of women's literature. She was born in Detroit and educated at Wayne State, where she received bachelor's and master's degrees and Phi Beta Kappa membership.

Pearson went on to receive her doctorate from Washington (Mo.) University, taught at the University of Missouri, St. Louis (UMSL) and became one the first English instructors to include women's studies methods in her classes.

She worked at the St. Louis Museum of Art and was on the public relations staff at UMSL when she died suddenly in November 1979 of leukemia. The Siegel family honors her memory with this award.

For more information about the award call the WSU English Department at (313) 577-2450.
