WSU African and African Diaspora film series continues Oct. 30

Two films remain in the African and African Diaspora film series presented by the department of history at 1:30 p.m. Thursdays in the African-American Room, 91 Manoogian Hall. Refreshments and informal discussions by history faculty members follow the films.

A 69-minute documentary, Lumumba: Death of a Prophet, will be presented Oct. 30 with Osumaka Likaka leading the discussion.

The 1992 film re-examines the image of Patrice Lumumba, the charismatic anti-colonialist Prime Minister of Congo (formerly the Belgian Congo and Zaire), who was assassinated in 1961.

An 86-minute film, A. Philip Randolph: for Jobs and Freedom, will be shown Nov. 13 followed by a discussion with Linda Housch-Collins.

The 1996 documentary focuses on the influential African-American labor leader who founded the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters.
