Nationally-acclaimed tenor and Wayne State University alumnus George Shirley will take part in a memorial concert titled There'll Be Joy! Joy! Joy! Sunday, Oct. 5, In memory of music Professor Harry M. Langsford, the concert will begin at 7 p.m. in Orchestra Hall, 3711 Woodward.
Langsford was a professor for more than 50 years; he conducted the award-winning Men's Glee Club. He also was minister of music at North Congregational Church in Farmington Hills. He died in August at the age of 76.
The concert selections are from the WSU/Langsford Singers/Church Choir tradition.
Members and alumni of the Glee Club, WSU Chamber Singers, Langsford Singers Male Choir and Chamber Choir and North Congregational Church Chancel Choir will perform.
In addition to Shirley, the Vanguard Brass Ensemble and North Congregation Church also will perform.
The concert is free and open to the public, but donations are welcome. For information call the music department at (313) 577-1795.
