The Wayne State University department of computer science will host its open house, "Preparing You for the Next Millennium," on Friday, Sept. 19 at State Hall.
The event will showcase the department's accomplishments and research developments for elementary, middle school, and high school students, as well as the general public. It also is an opportunity for students, faculty, staff and research and teaching assistants to make and renew acquaintances.
The day's activities will include:
· Free continental breakfast;
· PowerPoint presentations on department activities;
·A series of one-hour sessions on exploring the Internet and the World Wide Web;
· A free luncheon and newsletter-naming contest;
· An orientation session for part-time faculty;
· An oral presentation by graduate and doctoral students on computer science careers;
· Microsoft Corp. recruiters seeking graduating computer science majors;
· A daylong raffle featuring software, computer books and book bags;
· Recruiters for the WSU student chapters of the Association for Computer Machinery and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers; and
· Campus walking tours.
