Dan Logan, 75, retired Wayne State associate professor died June 13

J. Daniel Logan of Berkeley, retired associate professor of speech at Wayne State University and a faculty member for 32 years, died of pneumonia Friday morning, June 13, in the William Beaumont Hospital. He was 75.

Logan is survived by his wife, Jane, two daughters, Jameson and Kathleen, and a son, Daniel.

He received a doctorate from the university and was the "Voice of Wayne State" at many awards programs and special events. His pioneering efforts for Wayne State University radio station WDET-FM established the station's place in the community.

In 1980 Logan won a WSU slogan contest with "Wayne State University, A Degree in Excellence," a slogan that continues today. He was chairman of the graduate committee which administered more than 200 master's and 75 doctorate applicants and candidates. He retired in 1986.

Among his many professional activities, he was director, announcer and co-producer for the "Great Decisions" radio series from 1964-76. The program was accepted by the Mutual Broadcasting Network, Voice of America and Armed Forces Radio and broadcast nationally and internationally. He also consulted with business and industry.

Logan received a bachelor's degree from Millikin University in Decatur, Ill. and a master's degree from Syracuse University.

The family asks that memorials be sent to the Alzheimer's Disease Fund, 17251 W. 12 Mile Road, Suite 103, Southfield, MI 48076.

A memorial service was held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 18 at the Sawyer-Fuller Funeral Home, 2125 Twelve Mile Road, Berkeley, corner of Henley Street.
