Several special events are planned by Wayne State University's College of Liberal Arts in connection with the Old Main Centennial Celebration Week.

Thursday, April 17:

African-American Film Festival - 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., room 129 Old Main. Sponsored by the African American Film Institute and Africana studies department.

The lecture "Male Procreation Rights: An Oxymoron?" will be given at 4 p.m. in the fourth floor conference room at 51 W. Warren Avenue, WSU. Attorney Barbara Jean Hall will be the guest speaker. Sponsored by the philosophy department.

A wine and cheese reception will be held from 5:30-6-30 p.m. in room 1108 Old Main. The College of Liberal Arts Alumni Association sponsors the event.

"The Value of Liberal Arts" will be the topic of the first Milton Covensky lecture which is slated for 6:30 p.m. in room 1107 Old Main. Arthur Dudden, Bryn Mawr history professor emeritus and author on humor and U.S. relations with China and Japan, will be the guest speaker. The College of Liberal Arts Alumni Association and the history department sponsor the event.

Friday, April 18:

A financial and estate planning strategies seminar will be held from 8:20 a.m. to noon in the Law School. The seminar will cover basic and intermediate topics. Reserved seating only. Call (313) 577-6481 for details.

The College of Liberal Arts Repertoire from 1-4 p.m. in the lower lobby of Old Main will feature poetry readings, storytelling, Ray McNiece's One Man Show, and the Magic Poetry Band. Sponsored by the honors and English departments and American studies program.

The Thomas L. Conklin Memorial Lecture Series will cover "The Dacian Walls Speak: Plato in Moldavia" at 4 p.m. in room 226, Manoogian Hall. Helen North, centennial professor emerita of classics at Swathmore College will be the guest speaker. The lecture is sponsored by the classics, Greek, and Latin department.

Saturday, April 19:

Collecting ancient coins will be the topic of the Detroit Classical Association Lecture at 3 p.m. in the Armenian Room of Manoogian Hall. Presented by the classics department.

A gala featuring ethnic food, French-Canadian folk music and treasures from around the world will be highlighted at this celebration of international studies. The celebration will be from 5-7 p.m. in room 2223, Old Main. Sponsored by Romance languages, near East and Asian studies, German and Slavic studies, classics department, international studies and the English Language Institute.

Sunday, April 20:

A pancake breakfast and investment seminar will be held from 9 a.m. to noon in room 1107, Old Main. Monte Korn, attorney, newspaper columnist and WSU graduate, will discuss "How to manage the only two things we are sure of: Death and taxes as we plan for retirement and the next generation." Sponsored by the Liberal Arts Advisory Board and the economics department.

A sneak peek at the new anthropology museum will be held at 12:30 p.m. in room1227, Old Main. Sponsored by the anthropology department.
