The art and art history department will hold an open house from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, April 19, in the Art Building, Max Jacob House, Sculpture Foundry and Old Main on the campus of Wayne State University.
The event is one of the many being held in concert with the Old Main Centennial celebration. That historic building also is the home of several new fine art and design studios.
"The new art and design studios in Old Main are really magnificent," says Marion Jackson, department chairwoman. "This is a great opportunity to see the new facilities in use."
An unusual opportunity to see red-hot molten bronze poured into a sculptural mold will occur when graduate teaching assistant Todd Mitchell will do a pour at 1 p.m. in the Sculpture Foundry, 5743 Woodward Ave.
The agenda includes open studios and demonstrations in all areas of the fine arts, exhibitions of student work, demonstrations, art videos and art history discussions. Visitors may ask questions and talk with art faculty and students about art and art history programs.
A lecture by distinguished sculptor and alumnus Sergio DeGiusti on "Ethnicity and Art: Forces Which Shape Creativity" at 4 p.m. in the Community Arts Auditorium and a reception for the annual undergraduate student exhibition in the Community Arts Gallery conclude the schedule.
