A festive set of events is planned Sunday, April 6, by one of Michigan's oldest art organizations, the Scarab Club at 217 Farnsworth in the University Cultural Center.
A reception from 2-5 p.m. will celebrate the club's 90th anniversary and mark the opening of an exhibition titled "Fifty Years of Scarab Club Artists."
Many famous Michigan artists belonged to the club during its first half-century. The historic exhibition, curated by Pat and Randell Reed with Greg Stephens, traces the work of such well-known artists as John Carroll, Charles Culver, Robert Hopkin and Sarkis Sarkisian -- all of who were members between the club's establishment in 1907 and its 50th anniversary.
Members of the club, originally founded as the Hopkin Club, also will unveil its National Registry of Historic Places plaque at 3 p.m. during the reception.
A third event is a reception for photographers Dave Dezsi and George Booth, retired director of the university's Media Services photography unit. Their work will be exhibited in the lounge.
All events are free and open to the public. The exhibitions will run through April 30. Gallery hours are noon-5 p.m. Wednesday-Sunday. For more information call 831-1250.
