Planners for the 11th annual Detroit Festival of the Arts Sept. 19-21 in the University Cultural Center have issued the call for artists, poets, writers and other performers interested in taking part.
The festival, produced by the University Cultural Center Association (UCCA) and Wayne State, annually has a juried Artists' Market featuring the works of some 125 artists from across the nation.
Original art for show and sale ranges from the finest hand-blown glass to vibrant water color paintings and unique jewelry, sculpture, photography, wood-turning, leather and artworks in a variety of media.
The three-day festival also includes events such as a literary festival, stage performances by a range of musical groups and dancers, street theater, a children's fair including puppet shows, and many other activities.
Applications for space in the Artists' Market, along with appropriate supporting materials, must be postmarked by May 23. The application process to select poets and writers interested in taking part continues through June 1.
Artists, groups and individuals interested in being a part of the 1997 Detroit Festival of the Arts should call the UCCA office at (313) 577-5088 for detailed information about required documentation, application forms and deadlines, or write to Dorinda Ares, Detroit Festival of the Arts, UCCA, 4735 Cass Ave., Detroit 48202.
