Magdalena, a romantic operetta by Brazilian composer HectorVilla-Lobos, will be performed under the auspices of the WSU Opera Workshop at 8 p.m. Friday, March 14, at Smith Theatre on the Orchard Ridge campus of Oakland Community College.
The production, directed by Frances Brockington, assistant professor of music, is being presented in cooperation with Musica Viva International Concerts. Written by Brazil's most famous composer, Magdalena is the story of Madonna, the kidnapped patroness of a South American village.
The March 14 performance marks the operetta's North American stage premiere.
