"Nagasaki Journey: The Photographs of Yosuke Yamahata" will be exhibited March 7 through April 4 in the Community Arts Gallery.
Yamahata took the photographs on the streets of Nagasaki on Aug. 10, 1945, less than 24 hours after the nuclear bombing of the Japanese city ended the war with Japan.
The exhibition has been shown nationwide in such venues as the Ansel Adams Center for Photography in San Francisco and the International Center for Photography in New York.
The display at WSU is sponsored by the Center for Peace and Conflict studies and Detroit Council for World Affairs in conjunction with the U.S.-Japan Foundation.
To complement the exhibition, the center also slated three lectures:
· March 7: "Capturing Historical Moments through Photography" Marilyn Zimmerman, art and art history department, 5 p.m., 157 Art Building;
·March 18: "Teaching about Peace" Bridget Dean, Novi Meadows School, 5 p.m., 154 Art Building; and
· March 31: "The Nuclear Legacy in the Post-Cold War Era" Alvin Saperstein, physics and astronomy department, 5 p.m., 3339 Faculty-Administration Building.
The exhibition and lectures are free and open to the public. For more information call the Center for Peace and Conflict Studies at 577-3453.
