Wayne State law graduates ranked first in the percentage who passed the July Michigan bar examination, both in the overall category and among those taking it for the first time, State Board of Law Examiners report shows. The overall pass rate for WSU law graduates was 89 percent, and an extraordinary 97 percent of those who took the exam for the first time passed.
University of Michigan law graduates ranked second in both categories, with pass rates of 86 percent in each.
July pass rates for graduates of the state's other law schools:
· Cooley Law School - 63 percent overall, 79 percent of first-timers;
· Detroit College of Law at Michigan State University - 73 percent overall, 82 percent for first-timers; and
· University of Detroit Mercy - 68 percent overall, 78 percent for first-timers.
A total of 949 graduates of the state's five law schools took the July exam, of which 74 percent, or 700, passed.
