During his 500-mile bike ride across the state of Michigan, Wayne State University’s president will be stopping in Holland to talk with residents about higher education.

(Pg. 13) Wayne State University’s President M. Roy Wilson is embarking on his second annual Road Warriors tour during the last week of July. Marshall is the first stop on this year’s tour. Wilson, a biking enthusiast, is biking to four cities in five days holding a reception in each city. Wilson went to three cities during the inaugural tour last summer.

Wayne County Executive Warren Evans, Henry Ford Health System President and CEO Wright Lassiter III and Wayne State University President M. Roy Wilson Thursday talked about what they love about the city, future projects and immigration. The trio served as panelists in a discussion hosted by the Michigan Chronicle as part of its Pancakes & Politics series.

NCAA president Dr. Mark Emmert will be the keynote speaker at Wayne State’s ninth annual “W Day Brunch” on Saturday, celebrating the start of W Week, which focuses on the history of women’s collegiate athletics. The event also coincides with the 100th anniversary of Wayne State’s athletic department. Emmert, 65, has been president of the NCAA since October 2010.

Roy Wilson, president of Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, and board chair of the Association of American Medical Colleges, offers a simple formula for constructive interaction with the Trump administration. “Stay fact-based, and stay away from politics,” says Wilson, who calls himself an Independent. “Stand firm on what is known from evidence. There’s nothing to be gained by disengaging.”

Wayne State University President M. Roy Wilson will serve as board chair of the Association of American Medical Colleges. His one-year term began Nov. 7.  Wilson will lead the 17 board members of the Washington, D.C.-based not-for-profit health care association. "I hope to build on the momentum that former AAMC chairs have established and sustained over their years of visionary leadership," Wilson said in a statement. "The vital contributions that medical schools and teaching hospitals make to health care, public health and innovative research in this country position the United States as a global health care leader. I'm honored and humbled to serve as board chair of the AAMC, and I'm eager to roll up my sleeves and get to work."

Roy Wilson said in a letter to the campus community sent the day after Trump ended the program. “We join hundreds of universities, as well as government, business and community leaders across the nation, in expressing our disappointment in this decision and urging Congress to work together and quickly find a solution to this important issue,” Wilson wrote.
