2023 Medical Education Research and Innovation Conference winners announced

The Wayne State University School of Medicine conducted its fifth annual Medical Education Research and Innovation Conference on Nov. 16 to showcase completed and in-progress medical education research and innovation projects conducted by students, residents, staff and faculty.

The conference took place this year in the Scott Hall Cafeteria and the Margherio Family Conference Center.

In addition to judging of entries, the conference featured keynote speakers LuAnn Wilkerson, Ed.D., associate dean for Evaluation and Faculty Development in the Department of Medical Education at the University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School, and John Mitchell, M.D., vice chair for Academic Affairs in the Department of Anesthesiology, Pain Management and Perioperative Medicine at Henry Ford Health.

Entries were judged in three categories:  

Medical Education Research – Research related to the learning process that occurs within a medical education setting. Topics included, but were not limited to, learner characteristics, optimizing the learning process, assessment and evaluation, professional development, instruction design, technology in the learning environment and wellbeing.

Medical Education Innovation – Innovative curricula that addressed current issues within medical education. Entries were based on learning principles and were designed to meet a specific need.
