Wayne State University is seeking students, faculty and staff to serve as advocates for Giving Day on April 13.
Advocates participate by sharing and talking about Giving Day programs on their own social media pages and their student organization pages. Students who volunteer are eligible for service hours.
Giving Day is an annual one-day fundraising event occurring from midnight to midnight that inspires the entire Warrior community to join forces to maximize support of Wayne State University and the campus causes that mean the most to the university and its constituents.
There are four fundraising initiatives for Giving Day that benefit the School of Medicine, including white coat sponsorship, the Medical Alumni Annual Fund that directly supports the majority of School of Medicine student organizations, the Charles F. Whitten Post Baccalaureate Endowment Fund and the QHealth Endowed Postdoctoral Fellowship to be formed in the Department of Internal Medicine as a training program focused on LGBTQ+ health training.
“Our goal is not only to develop best practices, but to ensure we train the next generation of physicians to provide outstanding care to LGBTQ+ persons and their allies to decrease health disparities in Michigan and across the country,” said Diane Levine, M.D. ’82, FACP, professor of Internal Medicine and vice chair of Education for the Department of Internal Medicine.
To sign up as an advocate, visit the Advocacy Dashboard page here. Advocates have three avenues to pursue, including:
1. Sharing with their network on social media platforms, especially from student organization accounts
2. Creating matches or challenges to encourage people to give, which unlock specific set incentives
3. Creating personal content sharing how and why a Giving Day program is important, and what donating would mean for them and for others.
