Dr. Chowdhuri, a member of the Division of Pulmonary/Critical Care and Sleep Medicine, joined the AASM Foundation Board of Directors in June 2022. She has served as an AASM Foundation grant review committee member, and more recently, vice chair, and chair of the Career Development Grants Review Committee. She also has served on several AASM committees, including the Research Committee, the Standards of Practice Committee and the International Members Task Force.

Her three-year term on the board started in July.

The AASM Foundation is a leading scientific organization with a strategic mission of directly supporting career development, high-impact research, clinical training and community programs related to sleep and circadian rhythm disorders. The foundation's vision is to promote “healthier lives through better sleep.”

Dr. Chowdhuri, section chief of Sleep Medicine at the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center in Detroit, is particularly interested in advancing evidence-based care of sleep-wake disorders for patients in underserved and rural sections of the country. Her research focuses on understanding the pathophysiologic mechanisms of sleep-disordered breathing in high-risk populations, including older adults and prescription opioid users, with a translational goal of developing therapies that stabilize breathing during sleep.
