Virtual Breast Cancer Symposium 2021 set for Feb. 27

The Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute and the Wayne State University School of Medicine will present the Virtual Breast Cancer Symposium 2021 on Feb. 27.

The symposium, scheduled from 7:50 a.m. to 1 p.m., is geared for general physicians, surgeons, fellows, residents, students, pathologists, radiation oncologists, pharmacists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and nurses in the field of hematology and oncology.

Guest speakers include Jill Dietz, M.D., FACS, president of the American Society of Breast Surgeons and associate professor of Surgery at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, and Sara Tolaney, M.D., M.P.H., associate professor of Medicine at Harvard University Medical School and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

The day’s agenda includes:

7:50 to 8 a.m.: Opening remarks, Lydia Choi, M.D., WSU associate professor of Surgery
8 to 8:30 a.m.: “Radiation Oncology,” Michael Dominello, D.O., WSU assistant professor of Radiation Oncology.
8:30 to 9 a.m.: “Psychedelics and Their Emerging Role in Palliative Care,” Meghann Schenk, M.D., WSU assistant professor of Internal Medicine
9 to 9:30 a.m.: “Updates in Management of HR+ and Triple Negative Breast Cancer,” Hadeel Assad, M.D., WSU assistant professor of Oncology
9:30 to 10 a.m .: “Nutrition Recommendations for Breast Cancer,” Margaux Empey, M.P.H., R.D., Karmanos dietitian
10 to 10:15 a.m.: Break
10:15 to 11 a.m.: “Will the Pandemic Help Us Provide Value-Based Breast Care Cancer,” Jill Dietz, M.D.
11 to 11:45 a.m.: “Optimizing Therapy For Early Stage HERT2+ Breast Cancer,” Sara Tolaney, M.D., M.P.H.
11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Care presentations and discussion panel
1 p.m.: Closing remarks

The cost of the symposium is $25, free for fellows, residents and medical students.
