Emergency Medicine research staffer leads fundraiser for 3D PPE in Detroit

Paul Kurian, a research staff member at the Wayne State University School of Medicine’s Department of Emergency Medicine, is working with ProtectTheLine.org to lead a fundraising effort that’s providing vital personal protection equipment to hospital and clinic staff in Detroit.

A health care worker shows off her donated PPE gear.

Donations are used to purchase the materials necessary to make ventilator filters for patients, and shields and masks with replaceable filters for health care staff, using 3D-printing technology.

Funds have already led to the donation of 1,000 face shields to Detroit Receiving Hospital, 1,000 face shields to volunteers at the Wayne State University and Wayne State University Physician Group drive-through and mobile testing units, and several for the department’s clinical research staff.

Donations are being accepted to provide additional supplies at https://www.gofundme.com/f/personal-protection-equipment-ppe.
