Peter Aronson, M.D., assistant professor of Dermatology for the Wayne State University School of Medicine, died March 1. He was 67.

Dr. Aronson served as chief of Dermatology at the John Dingell Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and practiced privately in Troy, Mich., and in many southeast Michigan hospitals.

He served on the WSU faculty from 1984 to 2014, and as interim associate chair of the Department of Dermatology from 1999 to 2006. Dr. Aronson received the Resident Teaching Award from the WSU Department of Dermatology in 1984, 1985, 1991, 1994 and 2007. The department established the Peter J. Aronson Lectureship in his honor in 2013.

Dr. Aronson also served as chief of Dermatology at Detroit Receiving Hospital and vice chief of Dermatology at Harper Hospital.

He was a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Contact Dermatitis Society, the American Society of Dermatopathology, the Michigan Dermatological Society and the American Medical Association.

He earned his medical degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, and completed his residency in Dermatology at the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University and his residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Chicago. He also completed a residency in Dermatology at the University of Chicago.

He is survived by his wife, Debbie; daughter, Justine; and brothers, Geoffrey (Joanie) and John (Debbie).

The funeral will take place at the Ira Kaufman Chapel, 18325 W. Nine Mile Road, Southfield, on March 4 at 2 p.m., with religious services at 7 p.m. Interment will take place at Adat Shalom Memorial Park.
