Registration open for Breast Cancer Symposium 2020

Registration is now open for Breast Cancer Symposium 2020, sponsored by the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute and the Wayne State University School of Medicine.

Set for Feb. 29, from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Somerset Inn in Troy, Mich., the symposium is geared toward general physicians, surgeons, fellows, residents, students, pathologists, radiation oncologists, pharmacists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and nurses in the field of hematology and oncology.

The cost to attend is $125 for physicians and pharmacists; $50 for mid-level providers, retired physicians and other allied health providers; $25 for nurses; and $20 for fellows, residents and medical students - refundable upon attendance. Registration deadline is Feb. 25. Early registration is encouraged as space is limited. Register here

The agenda for the day includes:

7:30-8 a.m.: Registration and continental breakfast

8-8:10 a.m.: Opening remarks by Lydia Choi, M.D., member of the Breast Cancer Oncology Multidisciplinary Team at KCI and assistant professor of Surgical Oncology at the Wayne State University School of Medicine.

8:10-8:40 a.m.: Breast Reconstruction Surgery, Faisal Al-Mufarrej, M.D., associate professor of Surgery.

8:40-9:40 a.m.: Management of Breast Cancer During Pregnancy, keynote speaker Jacqueline S. Jeruss, M.D., Ph.D., associate professor of Surgery, Surgical Oncology at the University of Michigan.

9:40-10 a.m.: Break

10-11 a.m.: Updates on Management of HER2 Positive Breast Cancer, keynote speaker Nora Lynn Henry, M.D., Ph.D., of the University of Michigan’s Rogel Cancer Center.

11-11:30 a.m.:    Update on Genetic Counseling and Testing for Hereditary Cancer Syndrome, Michael Simon, M.D., professor of Oncology at the Wayne State University School of Medicine.

11:30 a.m.-noon: Fertility Preservation in Breast Cancer Patients: Updates and Logistics, San Salih, M.D., M.S., HCLD, associate professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Wayne State University School of Medicine.

Noon-12:30 p.m.: Lunch

12:30-1:30 p.m.: Case Presentations and Discussion Panel

1:30-2 p.m.: Radiation Oncology, Michael Dominello, D.O., assistant professor of Radiation Oncology at the Wayne State University School of Medicine.

2-2:30 p.m.: Update on Management of Hormone Positive and Triple Negative Breast Cancer: Current Practices, Challenges and Future Direction,    Hadeel Assad, M.D., assistant professor of Oncology at the Wayne State University School of Medicine.

2:30-2:40 p.m.: Closing remarks by Lydia Choi, M.D.
