Pediatric Research Day winners announced

The Wayne State University School of Medicine’s Department of Pediatrics has announced the winners of the fifth annual Pediatric Research Day.

This year’s event, revolving around the theme “Pediatric Mental Health and Well-Being,” took place April 30 in the Margherio Family Conference Center in Scott Hall.

Keynote speaker Jessica Schleider, Ph.D., addresses the attendees.

Attendees heard from keynote speaker Jessica Schleider, Ph.D., a clinical psychologist, intervention scientist and associate professor of Medical Social Sciences at Northwestern University. She is the founding director of the Lab for Scalable Mental Health and an internationally-recognized leader in research on single-session interventions for youth mental health.

Oral Presentations

First place: Nikesh Thadani, "Clinical Relevance of Kidney Biopsy in Steroid Resistant Nephrotic Syndrome in Children and Young Adults"       

Second place: Fatima Albarzon, “Non-invasive Detection of Normal and Abnormal Deep and Basal Cerebral Veins in Healthy Children and Sturge-Weber Syndrome: A Prospective Imaging Study With Clinical Correlations"

First place: Anjani Raja and Alan Dombkowski, Ph.D., “The Relationship between Urban Environmental Pollutants and Pediatric Neurological Syndromes in Urban Detroit Area”

Second place: Sam Streberger, Josh Prabhu, Anika Sood, Farzeen Shabeer, M.B.B.S., and Nirupama Kannikeswaran, M.D., “Outpatient Follow up After a Mental Health and Behavioral Health Visit to an Urban Pediatric Emergency Department.”
