Karmanos awarded President's Trophy second year in a row

For the second year in a row, the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute has been named the recipient of the President’s Trophy by the McLaren Health Care system. The award was presented at the McLaren Health Care Annual Meeting.

“This award means we have been recognized as the top subsidiary in the entire McLaren Health Care system as a result of exceeding expectations in clinical quality, patient safety, operations, fiscal responsibility and patient satisfaction,” said Gerold Bepler, M.D., Ph.D., president and chief executive officer of Karmanos Cancer Institute and chair of the Wayne State University Department of Oncology.

“To achieve results like this, it takes engaged staff who are passionate about their jobs to deliver the highest quality care. And, it takes physicians who have dedicated their careers to finding and delivering treatment regimens and protocols to extend the lives of our patients,” Dr. Bepler said. “This award would not be possible without the tireless commitment of our entire staff across all 16 Karmanos locations.”

The trophy is a 200-pound, black granite and crystal structure that is inscribed with the Karmanos name. It will be displayed for the next year at Karmanos in Detroit.

“We are truly humbled that the hard work of the entire team has been recognized by the McLaren system for the second year. Congratulations! Once again, we earned this together,” said Justin Klamerus, M.D., MMM, president of Karmanos Cancer Hospital and Network, and WSU associate professor of Oncology “Thank you for your incredible commitment and for making this profound achievement possible.”
