Dr. Hazlett to give Streilein Lecture at Harvard

Linda Hazlett, Ph.D., vice dean of Research for the Wayne State University School of Medicine, has been selected to give the J. Wayne Streilein Lecture during the 31st annual Cornea Conference, scheduled for Sept. 20-21 at Harvard University.

Dr. Hazlett, a distinguished professor and vice chair of Ophthalmology, Visual and Anatomical Sciences, will present “Pseudomonas aeruginosa keratitis: The long view.”

The Cornea Conference, held biennially,  is considered the premier global anterior segment eye research conference and is designed to provide a platform for presenting current basic and clinical research in the field of cornea and ocular surface.

The lecture is named for J. Wayne Streilein, M.D., known as “The Father of Modern Ocular Immunology.” He served as the Charles L. Schepens Professor of Ophthalmology and Professor of Dermatology at Harvard Medical School until his death in 2004. He was considered one of the world’s leading authorities on immune responses in the eye and the treatment of macular degeneration, glaucoma and other diseases of the cornea.

“It is an honor to have been asked to give the J. Wayne Streilein Lecture,” Dr. Hazlett said. “To have been privileged to know him makes this even more special to me, as he was both a mentor and friend as well as a giant in the field of immunology and immune privilege.”
