Donald Weaver, M.D., chair of the Michael and Marian Ilitch Department of Surgery at Wayne State University, is also serving as interim chair of the Department of Anesthesiology.

The additional appointment, announced by Dean Jack D. Sobel, M.D., on July 31, is effective Aug. 1.

Dr. Weaver replaces, in an interim capacity only, Terry Ellis II, M.D., who has left WSU for another position. Dr. Weaver will serve in the position while a search is conducted for a permanent chair of Anesthesiology.

Dr. Weaver has chaired the Department of Surgery since July 1, 2005. He is a long-time member of the faculty, having joined the Department of Surgery in 1979. He served as vice chair from 1989 to 2005. He is an active clinical surgeon with expertise in surgical oncology and minimally-invasive surgery.
