Register now for Feb. 23 Breast Cancer Symposium 2024

The Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute and the Wayne State University School of Medicine will present Breast Cancer Symposium 2024 on Feb. 23 at the Somerset Inn in Troy, Mich.

Symposium keynote speakers are Melissa Pilewskie, M.D., FACS, associate professor of Surgery and director of the Breast Care Center at the University of Michigan Rogel Cancer Center, and N. Lynn Henry, M.D., Ph.D., the Daniel F. Hayes M.D. Breast Cancer Research Professor and interim chief of the Division of Hematology/Oncology at the University of Michigan Rogel Cancer Center.

The agenda includes:

8 to 8:50 a.m.: Registration and breakfast

8:50 to 9 a.m.: Opening remarks by Lydia Choi, M.D., WSU assistant professor of Surgery, and Hadeel Assad, M.D., WSU assistant professor of Oncology.

9 to 9:30 a.m.: “Updates on TNBC and HER2 Positive Breast Cancer,” Hadeel Assad, M.D.

9:30 to 10 a.m. “Updates in imaging in the Diagnosis, Treatment and Screening of Breast Cancer,” Evita Singh, M.D., director of Breast Imaging, Radiology Department at Karmanos.

10 to 11 a.m.: “Update and Management of HR Positive Breast Cancer,” N. Lynn Henry, M.D., Ph.D.

11 to 11:45 a.m.: Case Presentations and Discussion Panel, Michael Simon, M.D., M.P.H., co-leader of the Karmanos Breast Cancer Multidisciplinary Team and WSU professor of Internal Medicine and Oncology; Melissa Pilewskie, M.D., FACS; N. Lynn Henry, M.D., Ph.D.; and patient advocate Flora Migyanka.

11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.: Lunch break

12:30 to 1:30 p.m.: “Update in the Surgical Management of Breast Cancer,” Melissa Pilewskie, M.D., FACS.

1:30 to 2 p.m.: “Pharmacy, Side Effect Management,” Leah Samman, PharmD, clinical pharmacy specialist - Hematology/Oncology at Karmanos.

2 to 2:30 p.m.: “Updates in Palliative Care,” Elisheva Newman, M.D., WSU assistant professor of Oncology.

2:30 p.m. Closing remarks, Lydia Choi, M.D., and Hadeel Assad, M.D.

Cost to attend the symposium is $125 for physicians and pharmacists; $50 for mid-level providers, retired physicians and other allied health providers; $25 for nurses; and $20 for fellows, residents and medical students (refundable upon attendance).

Pre-registration at karmanos.org/BreastCancerSymposium is encouraged. Registration deadline is Feb. 22.
