Ophthalmology, Visual and Anatomical Sciences secures Research to Prevent Blindness unrestricted grant

The Wayne State University School of Medicine’s Department of Ophthalmology, Visual and Anatomical Sciences has received an unrestricted research grant from Research to Prevent Blindness.

The $115,000 grant was awarded based on a review of criteria, including the department’s research activities, laboratory environment, and clinical and scientific staff, as evaluated by RPB’s Scientific Advisory Panel.

The funds will be deployed at the discretion of Mark Juzych, M.D., chair of the department and director of the Kresge Eye Institute, to provide maximum flexibility in developing and expanding eye research programs, and to provide opportunities for creative planning that go beyond the scope of restricted project grants.

The Wayne State University School of Medicine holds one of 29 RPB Unrestricted Grants nationwide.

Since its foundation in 1960, Research to Prevent Blindness has channeled more than $413 million into eye research. For additional information, visit www.rpbusa.org.
